Laredo nonprofit Tu Casa Gráfica is participating in the Friends Across Borders international project, which aims to highlight friendships that transcend borders in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Rio Grande International Study Center (RGISC), in collaboration with Friends Across Borders and other local partners, is hosting its Day of International Friendship event this weekend.
The event starts on Saturday, August 16, with a ceremony at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge, also known as Bridge Two, celebrating the connections between the U.S., Mexico and Canada, followed by a large party to conclude the festivities.
According to Neighborhood Cultural Organizer with the RGISC, Mario Flores, “We’re also having a nice celebration at night from 7 to 10 p.m. We will have music. We will have food, mariachi, a band, some poetry and a nice indigenous blessing from our local members. The address closest is 600 Water St., but it will be next to Bridge Two, right next to the Azteca Nature Trail.”
Organizers also aim to reclaim the narrative about the border, expressing their belief that the area does not require a military presence.
