Laredo paint party to mark cross-border International Day of Friendship

Maria Ruiz

Residents in the border town of Laredo and surrounding areas are invited to gather and create posters during a painting party Saturday in celebration of International Day of Friendship.

The Friends Across Borders Paint Party will take place Saturday at 500 San Agustin Ave. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event, a collaboration between the Rio Grande International Study Center, the Laredo Center for the Arts and Friends Across Borders, aims to offer a laid-back, community-centered day of painting, music and connection.

Guests can help make banners for the International Day of Friendship, an event Friends Across Borders is planning to unite communities along the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders happening Aug. 16. RGISC encourages the community to stay tuned for ways to take part in celebrating camaraderie.

To keep the energy high and creativity flowing, the event will feature music, snacks and refreshing drinks.

Overall, RGISC hopes the community comes out to create something meaningful as a local collective.

“Let’s come together to create something meaningful ahead of International Day of Friendship,” RGISC said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see you out there.”
